the inspiration behind the print
BY JENNIFER MEDEROS, CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT ADEN + ANAIS
My family has always been beach people. When I was little, my dad would take us by boat to nearby Crane’s Beach in Massachusetts on the weekends. We’d hang out on the beach all day, and we’d sleep out on the boat at night. Like true New Englanders, we’d also do our own whale-watching on my dad’s boat instead of going out with the group tours. We’d always see a ton of whales. My dad used to bang an oar on the side of the boat, and, when the whales heard it, they’d breach. It was incredible. Needless to say, I’ve been wanting to do an ocean-inspired theme for years—not to mention my dad has been requesting one too!
For this reason, the High Seas Collection is very close to my heart. Crane Beach’s rocky coastline inspired the collection’s color palette of soft blues and pale tans. The anchors and waves evoke our weekend boat journeys, and the whales are a tribute not only to my own experience, but to New England tradition in general. I’m grateful that I could capture these special memories in a collection for my dad and am thrilled to share a little piece of myself with the aden + anais family.
